Dr Junlong Shang, Principal Investigator

Dr Junlong Shang is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor, permanent) in Rock Mechanics at the University of Manchester. Prior to this, he held a permanent position as Assistant Professor at the University of Glasgow. He has over a decade of combined research and teaching experience in Rock Mechanics and Geomechanics. Dr Shang is the recipient of several prestigious international honours, including the ISRM Rocha Medal and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship. He was selected as a Future Leader Member of the American Rock Mechanics Association. He currently serves on the editorial boards of multiple leading journals in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering. These include: Scientific Editor, Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (Elsevier), Editorial Board Member, Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering( Springer), Editorial Board Member, International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences ( Elsevier), and Associate Editor, Smart and Green Mining Engineering. Dr Shang also holds an EPSRC New Investigator Award, supporting his ongoing work on fracture mechanics and coupled subsurface processes in geological disposal and energy systems.
